Pale is Beautiful

I cannot tell you how irritated I get when I read snide comments about the color of people's skin. On perezhilton.com it was commented how someone should "get a spray tan" to look healthy. I'm sorry that my genetics don't measure up to what society believes is beautiful. I take pride in my HEALTHY skin. Did you know that tan skin is damaged skin? Why can't society look to celebrities like Dita Von Teese and say "Her skin is gorgeous! Be like her!"? Instead they look to celebrities that probably spend thousands on spray tans, tanning beds, bronzers, and other products to make their skin "glow." Just because I'm pale does that mean my skin can't "glow"? I've been made fun of for being so pale most of my life. I used to be self conscious about my "Nicole Kidman clear" legs that I never wore shorts, and it was rare to see me in a skirt. I've come to realize that my pale skin is HEALTHY skin and I should have no shame in it.

I AM BEAUTIFUL AND I AM NOT TAN!!

Here's a few tips to HEALTHY skin: (from mayoclinic.com)
1. Protect yourself from the sun - Rays from the sun can cause wrinkles, age spots, and rough skin. Not to mention skin cancer.
2. Don't smoke - Smoking narrows the blood vessels under the skin causing important nutrients from getting in.
3. Treat your skin gently - Take warm water baths and showers, use shaving cream to avoid irritation, and always moisterize your skin with lotion.
4. Eat a healthy diet - Common sense
5. Manage stress - Stress can trigger breakouts and other skin problems.
